Foundation Academy Charter School - Team

Sheria M. Andrews is an instructional dean and teaches English-Language Arts at Foundation Academy. Prior to joining Foundation Academy, Ms. Andrews worked as a Language Arts Literacy Teacher at the Cleveland School in Newark, NJ. She is a 2006 Teach for America Corps Member. Ms. Andrews received a B.S. in Psychology from Howard University and a M.A. in School Counseling at Montclair State University. Ms. Andrews is completing a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Administration and Supervision through National-Louis University.

Kaitlin Bazan is the 5-8th grade Book Club Teacher. She previously worked at the Dean Hope Center for Educational and Psychological Services in Manhattan, NY, a reading clinic for struggling readers, primarily serving low-income families. She received her B.A. in English Education from Ithaca College, cum laude and her M.A. as a Reading Specialist from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Emily Brengman is a teacher at Foundation Academy. A 2011 Teach For America corps member, Ms. Bregman previously taught at Juniata Park Academy in Philadelphia, Pa. She received her B.A. in International Affairs with honors from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.

Egypt B. Charles is a Science Teacher at Foundation Academy. She previously taught 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade at Speedway Avenue School in Newark. Ms. Charles also served as the President and owner of Brown Bag Kids, a child care food service catering company. She possesses a B.S. in Food Science from Douglass College at Rutgers University and is completing her MA in Educational Leadership, Management & Policy at Seton Hall University.

Kristi Costanzo is a 5th and 6th grade writing teacher at Foundation Academy. Before joining Foundation Academy she taught kindergarten at North Star Academy Charter School in Newark, and 2nd grade in East Brunswick. Ms. Costanzo graduated summa cum laude from Rider University with a major in Elementary Education and Music.

Lindsey Das teaches History and Geography at Foundation Academy. Ms. Das previously served as a Lead Teacher of Social Studies at Frederick Douglass Academy VII High School in Brooklyn, NY. She received her B.S. in Business Administration and M.S. in Education from Hofstra University.

Emily DiUglio teaches Music at Foundation Academy. Previously, Ms. DiUglio conducted her student teaching at Taylor Mills Elementary School in Manalapan, NJ and Pennwood Middle School in Bucks County, PA. She graduated from Westminster Choir College of Rider University with a Bachelor of Music, magna cum laude, in Music Education.

Kenneth Doolittle teaches English-Language Arts at Foundation Academy. Mr. Doolittle previously taught 6th Grade Math and Science at the Robert Benjamin Wiley Community Charter School in Erie, PA and was a 7th and 8th Grade Reading Teacher at the Queen City Academy in Plainfield, NJ, where he was selected Queen City Teacher of the Year in 2009. He possesses a B.A. in Elementary Education from Mercyhurst College.

Robyn Douglas teaches Science and is a Founding Teacher at Foundation Academy. She previously taught at Somerville Middle School in Somerville, NJ and in the middle school at Trenton Community Charter School. Ms. Douglas graduated with Highest Honors with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a B.A. in Psychology from Shippensburg University. She received her Master of Science degree in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University.

Rebeca Gamez-Djokic is a Book Club teacher at Foundation Academy. Rebeca Gamez-Djokic joins the team with experience student teaching at John Witherspoon Middle School, working as an Assistant Teacher at Charles Summer School (MA) and in other education, human, and public services, as well as participating in several leadership fellowships. Rebeca received her B.A. from Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs and her Ed.M. in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University.

Isabel Goss teaches 7th and 8th Grade Spanish and 6th Grade Writing at Foundation Academy. She previously taught at Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Wayne, PA and the Bensalem Township School District. Ms. Goss received her B.A. of Science in Education from Temple University and her Master of Education with Principal Certification from Cabrini College.

Christina Gratale teaches Special Education at Foundation Academy. Ms. Gratale previously taught 5th and 6th Grade Math and History at Foundation Charter School and was a 7th and 8th Grade Math Teacher at the Queen City Academy in Plainfield, NJ. She possesses a B.A. in Elementary Education with a speciation in math from Montclair State University. Currently, she is in the process of getting her Masters in Special Education.

Susan Hanlon is the Founding School Nurse at Foundation Academy. Ms. Hanlon has previously worked as the School Nurse in multiple settings, including the Bordentown Public Schools, Trenton Community Charter School and at a private special education school. She received a B.S. in Nursing from Trenton State College.

Carla Hill is the Student Affairs Administrator and is a Co-Founder of Foundation Academy. Ms. Hill previously served as the Parent Liaison at Trenton Community Charter School, where she spearheaded the school’s parental involvement efforts. She has experience working with at-risk students and special needs adults, including work as a Residential Coordinator for the New Jersey Deaf and Blind Association and at the Saint Lewis School in Texas, an elementary school for severely handicapped children.

Catharine Kalczuk is a Mathematics Teacher at Foundation Academy. Mrs. Kalczuk previously served as a Math Teacher at Emily Fisher Charter School in Trenton, NJ where she was selected as a New Jersey State Teacher of the Year in 2006. She possesses a B.A. in Secondary Mathematics Education from Temple University, cum laude.

Alice Lubrano Weiss is an English Language Learner Teacher at Foundation Academy. Ms. Lubrano-Weiss previously was a Founding 2nd Grade Teacher at the Cap Cana Heritage School and a 2nd Grade Teacher at Saint Michael’s School, both in the Dominican Republic. She possesses a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Early Childhood Education from the Universidad Iberoamericana of Santo Domingo (UNIBE).

Daniel Moore teaches English-Language Arts at Foundation Academy. Mr. Moore completed his student teaching at Hanover High School in Hanover, NH, and also taught at Marshall Islands High School on Majuro Atoll in the Central Pacific. He graduated from the Teacher Education Program at Dartmouth College, cum laude, with a B.A. in English (Creative Writing).

Tiknika Nollie is Foundation Academy's School Secretary. Prior to joining Foundation, Ms. Nollie served as Outpatient Service Coordinator at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children.

Allison O’Neill is the 5-8th grade Book Club Teacher at Foundation Academy Charter School. Before coming to Foundation Academy Charter School in December of 2010 she taught 4th grade Language Arts at the Paul Robeson Charter School. She also served an AmeriCorps Term of Service at Hedgepeth/Williams as the Education Coordinator for GGrant94ft Academic Sports Academy, Inc. and worked at Lutheran Social Ministries as a Refugee Social Worker. She is an AmeriCorps Spirit of Service award winner recipient. She was a Bonner Community Scholar while at TCNJ, where she received her BA degree in English and Education.

Lisa Pope is a seventh- and eighth-grade writing teacher. Prior to joining Foundation Academy's faculty, Mrs. Pope was a journalist with The Times of Trenton newspaper. She received a first-place award in enterprise reporting from the New Jersey Press Association and the 2006 Douglas D. Martin Award for integrity and courage in journalism. She has worked as the media specialist for the Bonner Center for Civic and Community Engagement in Ewing. Mrs. Pope has a BA in Journalism summa cum laude from the University of Arizona and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the College of New Jersey.

Marlene Rice is the String Orchestra Director and teaches Music at Foundation Academy. A professional violinist with experience in major orchestras and ensembles throughout the United States, Ms. Rice was previously Program Director and Teaching Artist for The Noel Pointer Music Foundation. In addition, Ms. Rice has served as a string instructor in the New York City and Detroit Public Schools. Ms. Rice received a B.S. from Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Music from the University of Michigan.

Stephanie Segall is an Instructional Dean, Mathematics Teacher and a Founding Teacher at Foundation Academy. A 2005 Teach for America Corps Member, Ms. Segall was a Special Education teacher at J.D. Smith Middle School in Las Vegas, NV prior to coming to Foundation Academy. Ms. Segall possesses a B.A. in Government and Public Policy from Smith College, a M. Ed. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies from National Louis University in Supervision and Administration.

Sarah Swanson-Hysell is the Book Club Administrator at Foundation Academy. A 2005 Teach for America corps member, Ms. Swanson previously taught at Roma Middle School in Roma, TX and at Mastery Charter School in Philadelphia. PA. She received a B.A. in American Studies from Carleton College.

Joseph M. Tantum Jr. is a Special Education Teacher at Foundation Academy. Mr. Tantum previously served as a Fifth Grade Teacher and Basic Skills Teacher at McKnight Elementary School, Seventh/Eighth Grade Languages Arts and Social Studies Teacher at Mott Elementary School and as a Second Grade Teacher at Jefferson Elementary School. Prior to teaching, Mr. Tantum spent more than twenty-five years serving as a Financial Controller, Senior Project Manager, Director of Operations, and National Account Manager in the technology segment of corporate America. Mr. Tantum has a Bachelor’s of Science in Management, Bachelors of Science in Accounting, Master’s in Business Administration and Elementary Education Certification from Rider University. Mr. Tantum is currently enrolled in the Special Education Program at Rutgers University.

Jamie Tomczuk teaches 5th and 6th grade History & Geography at FACS. She previously student taught at Henry C Lea School in Philadelphia, and worked as director of after school and summer programs at two different public schools in Philadelphia. Ms. Tomczuk has a BA in Urban Studies and Communication from University of Pennsylvania and a MS in Secondary Education also from University of Pennsylvania. She was a Leonore Annenberg Teaching Fellow, part of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation.

Christian Torino teaches Health, Physical Education, and Ballroom dance at Foundation Academy. In addition to teaching, he also coaches cross country and basketball. Prior to joining Foundation, Mr. Torino taught Health in the Bound Brook and Readington School Districts. He possesses a BA in Physical Education and Health from Kean University.

Valeen Vaccaro teaches Mathematics at Foundation Academy. Ms. Vaccaro did her student teaching in Lakewood and Trenton, NJ, prior to which she worked for several years in the engineering field. She earned a B.A. in Psychology and M.A. in Teaching from The College of New Jersey.
